WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — A war of words has broken out on Twitter between a Republican senator and a top political strategist for the president.
Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, appeared to call President Obama “stupid” on Twitter Saturday in reference to the president’s comments saying it would be “unprecedented” if the Supreme Court struck down his health care law.
“Constituents askd why i am not outraged at PresO attack on supreme court independence. Bcause Am ppl r not stupid as this x prof of con law,” Grassley said on Twitter.
David Axelrod, a former senior adviser to the president who is now working on his re-election campaign, shot back at the Iowa senator over the tweet.
“Heads up, Sen. Grassley. I think a 6-year-old hijacked your account and is sending out foolish Tweets just to embarrass you!” Axelrod said on his Twitter account.
The White House has yet to comment on the matter.
In response to the criticism aimed at the president from his comments last week, Attorney General Eric Holder offered assurances that the Obama administration respects the authority of the courts and said that “”there is no dispute that courts properly review the constitutionality of acts of Congress.”
